Grants for science/tech start-ups – Albuquerque Journal


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The state Economic Development Department is making small grants – up to $10,000 each – available to science and technology start-ups in New Mexico.

The Business Start-Up Grants are designed for potentially high-growth, for profit companies in science and technology with fewer than 50 employees, Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes said in a news release.

Requirements include: demonstrating the potential to create jobs or generate additional private investment; be headquartered in New Mexico; and provide a letter of good standing or Certificate of Compliance with the state Taxation and Revenue Department.

The Office of Science and Technology is seeking 10 companies and funds need to be used by June 30, 2020. Awards of up to $10,000 each will be dispersed immediately upon execution of a contract and state vendor approval.

The submission deadline is Monday January 23, 2020.

Eligible companies must be working in aerospace, biosciences, cybersecurity, intelligent manufacturing; or sustainable and green energy.

Companies also must agree to seek out additional funding and provide a 6-month and 12-month status report to the state.

Evaluators will examine applicants for a unique product or service, clear and compelling business proposition, scalable product and business model

capable team, potential to create jobs here, private investment and economic benefit to the state, according to the news release.
