Graeme Souness accused Isaac Hayden making a leg-breaking challenge after he was shown a straight red in Newcastle’s clash with Leicester on Sunday.

The midfielder was shown a straight red card after a horror challenge on Leicester’s Dennis Praet.

Steve Bruce’s side were already 1-0 down in the first-half when Hayden thundered into a studs-up tackle that caught his opposite number on the shinpad after winning the ball.

And at half-time Souness did not let up in his assessment of the horror challenge. 

He said: ‘That’s a leg breaker. You can’t defend that. 

‘That’s a sending off all day long. Yes he got the ball, but he’s making sure he’s protecting himself. It’s a sending off.’

Hayden was shown a straight red for a similarly reckless tackle on Cardiff’s Josh Murphy in August last year.
