International Star captures the Louisiana Stakes.
International Star, who earned the most qualifying points on the 2015 Kentucky Derby trail, will begin his stallion career at Haras Porta Pia Stud Farm in Chile, BloodHorse reports.
The 8-year-old son of Fusaichi Pegasus finished his racing career with six wins in 19 starts on behalf of owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey for earnings of $1,247,529.
After winning on debut as a juvenile at by 5 1/2 lengths at Belmont Park, International Star won the Grade 3 Grey Stakes later in the season, then ran in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Park before moving to dirt to finish fourth in the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes to finish his juvenile year.
International Star came into his own at three, storming through the Louisiana branch of the road to the Kentucky Derby with wins in the G3 LeComte Stakes, the G2 Risen Star Stakes, and the G3 Louisiana Derby. The 171 qualifying points he earned during the Derby prep season was the most of any horse on that year’s trail, but he was scratched the morning of the race due to an ankle chip that later required surgery.
International Star continued racing for three more campaigns, with the highlight being a victory in the listed Louisiana Stakes and runner-up efforts in the G2 Fair Grounds Handicap and the G3 Mineshaft Handicap, all at Fair Grounds, where he dominated the Derby preps.
Bred in New York by Katharine Voss and Robert Manfuso, International Star is out of the winning French Deputy mare Parlez.
