Golden Knights win fourth straight to oust Avalanche in 6,2 will face Canadiens

The Vegas Golden Knights won their fourth consecutive game on Thursday, 6-3, to eliminate the Colorado Avalanche in six games and advance to a semifinal matchup with the Montreal Canadiens.

Six different players scored for Vegas. A back-and-forth game turned the Golden Knights’ way when the teams combined for three goals in the final six minutes of the second period, the last of which, by defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, put Vegas ahead 4-3 entering the third period. William Carrier pushed the lead to two with a goal off a deflection with less than nine minutes remaining. Max Pacioretty scored an empty netter with 3:10 left to wrap up the win.

Vegas fell behind 2-0 in the series before winning Games 3 and 4 at home and Game 5 in overtime in Denver.

The Golden Knights, the second seed in the West Division, will make their third trip to the third round of the playoffs in four years of existence. They fell to Dallas in five games in the Western Conference finals last season and reached the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural season of 2017-18.

The Canadiens, the fourth seed in the North Division, overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat Toronto in the first round before sweeping Winnipeg in Round 2.
