Gizmo the adorable Pomeranian calms himself down by sucking on a dummy

Gizmo is a service Pomeranian with a rather unusual habit – he loves nothing more than sucking on his dummy. Yes, the same kind of dummy a toddler would use.

But there’s a good reason why this cute pup is attached to his dummy. Gizmo was rescued from a puppy mill where he was mistreated two years ago.

His owner Angela Jack from Tennessee, says that he has been sucking on his pacifier ever since, and she believes it as because he was weaned too soon.

Angela also says the dummy helps to calm Gizmo down when he gets stressed.

When Angela first started sharing pictures of her beloved pup her friends poked fun at her.

‘Everybody thinks this is the meanest thing in the whole world. They think I force him to take [the dummy],’ she says. But that’s not true, the dummy is genuinely Gizmo’s favourite toy.

Angela says she was horrified when she discovered the conditions Gizmo was living in when he was a puppy.

‘There were 50 dogs in there, all running rampant,’ she explains. ‘He would have been euthanized… when Gizmo was first adopted, he was sucking on everything.

‘He’s a rescue and people throw those dogs away. In the dog world he’s a garbage dog, but in my eyes, he is my world.’

When he’s not playing with his pacifier Gizmo, a certified service dog, helps Angela with her PTSD, anxiety and diabetes.

Angela says he can detect when her blood sugar is too high, and she has trained him to alert her before it becomes dangerous.

‘If he touches his paw to my face, it means I have high blood sugar,’ she says.
