Giants power their way back to .500 and hope to make a final push at home


Brandon Crawford had a shot at making history Sunday afternoon.

He hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to open up what would become a 14-2 Giants victory at Oakland. When he stepped to the plate in the seventh, the bases were loaded again. No Giant in franchise history, modern or otherwise, had hit two grand slams in one game. Only 13 major-leaguers have done it, including three National League players.

Over the arc of his career, Crawford always had a knack for finding these exceptional crevices. First shortstop in baseball history to hit a grand slam in a postseason game? That’s Crawford. First major-leaguer in four decades to collect seven hits in a game? That was Crawford, too, in an extra-inning contest at Miami in 2016.
