Golden Gate Fields near San Francisco, Calif.
Thursday’s seven-race live racing program and simulcast wagering at Golden Gate Fields in Albany, Calif., has been cancelled because of a leak in a main gas line running into the racetrack property.
As a result of the leak, flow of gas into Golden Gate Fields was turned off, resulting in the facility being unable to produce hot water and compromising operations.
Aidan Butler, an executive with racetrack owner The Stronach Group, said the utility company responsible for maintaining the lines has a “critical task force” working to repair the problem. He was informed Wednesday afternoon the leak could not be fixed in time for Thursday’s live racing program. No simulcast wagering will be offered at the Bay Area track because of the situation.
Racing is scheduled to resume on Friday with an eight-race program beginning at 12:45 p.m. PT.
