Mike Hoffman’s response was as quick as his shot on Saturday.
After being a healthy scratch in back-to-back games, and three of the past six, Hoffman was inserted into the Blues’ lineup Saturday against Minnesota and scored two goals in an incredible come-from-behind win that he made possible.
He tied the game twice — once on a second-period, power-play goal and again with 42 seconds left in regulation and the Blues on a desperate six-on-five advantage. Their NHL-best ninth six-on-five goal this season allowed them to live for overtime, where captain Ryan O’Reilly won the game, 3-2, with two ticks left on the clock.
And now Hoffman was sitting at a table on a Zoom call with reporters, ready for the expected question about his recent stretch of healthy scratches.
