A charity has slammed a group of teenagers when one of its ponies was left frightened and injured after being disturbed in its field.
Brinsley Animal Rescue centre, which is based in Nottingham, said a group of ‘mindless youths’ chased the ponies and cows in its field on Tuesday evening.
This reportedly caused one of the ponies to become so distressed it attempted to jump a fence and hurt its leg.
The owners of the animal rescue centre have called for the perpetrators to come forward, and said the current coronavirus pandemic has made the situation worse as they have had to cancel their upcoming fundraising events.
They wrote on their Facebook page: ‘Really big thank to the big group of mindless youths that trespassed in our fields tonight and chased the ponies and cows and then caused one of the ponies to get so frightened he tried to leap over the fence and got tangled up in the netting.

‘The fence broke and the netting got embedded into his legs really deeply.
‘If you haven’t got anything useful to offer society why not think of a fundraiser for us to repair fencing and pay tomorrow’s vets bill or perhaps come back and fix fencing or bathe the pony’s wound that you’ve now injured?
‘I guess it’s only money, and with all our fundraisers cancelled it doesn’t matter to you as you were just having a bit of drunken fun.
‘When we shouted at you to get out of the field for your own safety why did you then choose to film US?
‘Sometimes we just give up trying to understand society and idiots like this. This has now become a totally unnecessary expenditure to the charity but at least a big group of teenagers has fun and can put something on TikTok. So angry.’
Nottinghamshire Police has been contacted for comment.
The post received a huge amount of sympathy from the charity’s supporters. One Facebook user wrote: ‘Horrible people, they should be made to foot the bill.
Will be fundraising for you next month, you do an amazing job for the animals.’
Someone else wrote: ‘I hope you’re all ok. I love your little sanctuary and the love and hard work you put in to it.
‘Sending you my love and hugs and hope these yobs get caught.’
Brinsley Animal Rescue says it is a charity dedicated to caring for animals, and its primary mission is to relieve the suffering of animals and birds.
