Stefanos Tsitsipas came out on top in the opening set 7-6 to take a 1-0 lead in the final against Novak Djokovic. Tsitsipas took the first set tiebreak 8-6 after some sublime shots under pressure. Both players broke each others’ serve once before going into the tiebreak. Djokovic had defeated defending champion Rafael Nadal 3-6, 6-3, 7(7)-6(4), 6-2 in a thrilling semi-final encounter while Tsitsipas edged past Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 in the other semi-final.
