A wily fox has been filmed hitching a lift on top of a van amid the morning commute in Kent.

The animal somehow made its way onto the vehicle’s roof as it drove along the M2 past the village of Bredhurst.

Mithul Santhosh was driving friend Sooraj Vijay to work at 6.50am on Friday when the unusual sight caught his eye.

Footage shows the fox moving around on top of the red transporter as it passed under a bridge.

Gillingham-based Mithul said: ‘I’ve never seen anything like that before in my life.’

The mates watched in amazement as the fox surfed on the roof on the busy motorway.

They then believe a motorist alerted the van driver, who stopped at a layby and helped the fox down before it ran off.

Mithul added: ‘Or maybe he heard the fox’s footsteps through the roof.

‘We watched it for two or three minutes but we couldn’t stop because we were worried there could have been an accident.’

Fortunately the fox was helped down to safety (Picture: SWNS)

How or when the crafty fox made its way onto the roof remains a mystery.

But it’s certainly not the first animal to join humans on their journeys.

A cow sat in the back seat of a Buick Sedan as its owner pulled up at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Wisconsin, USA.
