Four steps for box jumps that will help you add more distance



Box jumps (yes, jumping onto a box) are a proven way to boost clubhead speed. Rory McIlroy’s great at them, and look at what he can do to a ball. The traditional box jump—onto a platform set directly in front of you—is great for basic leg strength. Jumping onto a platform placed to your side, however, also hones your ability to rotate and stay in posture. Here’s how it works. (For you box-jump newbies, it’s okay to ditch the platform until you feel more confident.)

Step 1: Stand to the side of a box or step with your feet shoulder-width apart. (Work in both directions during your training sessions.)

Step 2: Squat down with open palms facing forward.
