Former NBA champion questions Knicks' championship credentials

Karl-Anthony Towns’ addition to the New York Knicks roster has quickly made the franchise one of the championship favorites in the Eastern Conference. Head coach Tom Thibodeau will now have two All-Star-level players to lean on during crunch time, with Jalen Brunson being the primary offensive weapon.

According to former NBA champion Iman Shumpert, the duo of Towns and Brunson isn’t enough for the Knicks to make the NBA Finals, let alone win the entire thing.

“I love them on paper,” Shumpert said. “…I don’t love that at the end of the game in the playoffs. It’s not scary enough. There’s got to be some player that can go off by themselves…The hardest thing to beat, is knowing exactly what’s coming, and it’s an iso, and there’s nothing you can do but watch. We all have to sit here and watch, hoping he misses that iso. I’m not against KAT or Brunson, I like them as players. I don’t think at the end of a game they can go back and forth like that.”
