Former England international Carlton Palmer to become manager of non-league Grantham Town


Former England international Carlton Palmer to return to football next season as he accepts managerial vacancy at Northern Premier League side Grantham Town

  • Carlton Palmer will take over on a part-time basis at the club next season 
  • Grantham Town are in the seventh tier of the football pyramid in England 
  • Palmer formerly played for West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds 

Carlton Palmer is returning to English football next season after accepting the job as manager of Grantham Town.

Palmer, who won 18 England caps, has spent the last seven years working as a director of sport at a private school in Shanghai, China.

He will take over on a part-time basis at Grantham in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, the seventh tier of the pyramid, in the summer but is already making plans for next season.

Palmer, 55, enjoyed a long playing career, starting at West Bromwich Albion and including successful spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds.

His last job in English football was as manager of Mansfield, ending in 2005.
