For several young Cardinals players, getting fans back in the stands was a family matter

It’s starting to feel a little more like summer.

Temporarily somber, desolate buildings, empty of the spirit and fanfare they were designed to house, major-league ballparks are slowly refilling to capacity. With the expansion comes the return of lively crowds, eager to continue building toward any resemblance of post-pandemic normalcy.

Baseball just isn’t baseball without its fans. A season devoid of them only amplified that notion. But as more organizations move to expand to full-capacity parks, as the Cardinals did Monday evening, it brings along hope that the worst is behind us.

It also provides the opportunity for family members and friends of current players to return to their designated seats at Busch Stadium or at one of the road ballparks on the team’s schedule. For some, it means having a spot there for the first time.

Due to their own COVID-19 outbreak, the Cardinals had 13 players make their major-league debuts in 2020.
