Florida Horses Being Slaughtered For Meat

Horse owners in Florida are being warned to keep close tabs on their steeds as incidences of horses being slaughtered for their meat across the state are on the rise. A horse in Sumterville was found dead Wednesday morning, across the road from the pasture in which she was boarded. The fence had been cut to get the horse out and the scene suggested that the horse was killed for its meat.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office posted a warning on their Facebook page about the incident and is offering extra patrols near areas that house horses. Any information on the incident can be given to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at 352-793-2621 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

Two other horses were found slaughtered in Marion County and in Manatee County, though it is unknown if the cases are related. Rewards totaling $13,000 are being offered
