Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale showed no sign of slowing down on Tuesday as Mike Ryan, agent, spent $310,000 for a filly by Flatter from the family of Canadian champion Kimchi and Grade/Group 1 winner Mind Your Biscuits to top the session.
Tuesday’s gross receipts reached $15,463,700 for 273 horses, for an average of $56,644 and a median of $40,000.
Through eight sessions of the 13-day sale, Keeneland has sold a total of 1,582 horses for $330,293,200, for an average of $208,782 and a median of $130,000.
Consigned by Select Sales, agent for Machmer Hall, the session-topping filly is out of the Grade 3-placed winner Co Cola, by Candy Ride (ARG).
Gainesway, agent, was the top consignor Tuesday with sales of $2,548,000 for 31 yearlings. They included four of the 10 highest-priced horses led by a filly by Gainesway stallion Empire Maker who is a half-sister to stakes winner Left a Message and was purchased by Wise Racing for $300,000. Out of the winning Deputy Minister mare Chief Secretary, the filly is from the family of Grade 2 winner and sire Exchange Rate.
A colt by Palace Malice from the family of Grade 3 winner Sensation sold to Michael Dorsey for $280,000. Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent, he is out of the stakes-placed Giant’s Causeway mare Giant Sensation.
Ed and Susie Orr paid $215,000 for a colt by Point of Entry whose second dam is champion Storm Flag Flying. Claiborne Farm, agent, consigned the colt, who is out of the winning Unbridled’s Song mare Sea Trial. The colt is from the family of Grade 1 winners My Flag, Miner’s Mark and Traditionally.
Two colts and one filly sold for $200,000 apiece.
Gainesway, agent, consigned a son of Empire Maker purchased by Spartan. Out of the Tapit mare Winter Wonderland, he is from the family of French champion Caracolero and stakes winner General a Rod.
Federico Barberini paid the amount for a colt by Competitive Edge consigned by Woods Edge Farm (Peter O’Callaghan), agent. He is the first foal of Cherohala, by K One King, and from the family of Group 2 winner Apalachee Prince.
A filly by Liam’s Map from the family of City of Light, winner of the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and 2019 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) to close his career, sold for $200,000 to J. Stevens Bloodstock, agent. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent, she is the first foal of the winning Quality Road mare Lough Ness.
J. Stevens Bloodstock, agent, purchased four yearlings for $482,000 to be the session’s leading buyer by gross.
