Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach Trailer Shows Off Nvidia Tech – Screen Rant

A trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach shows off ray tracing and global illumination, and the results are beautifully vivid.

A trailer released today for the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, the latest entry in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. The series began with 2014’s massively popular Five Nights at Freddy’s and has since seen six other mainline entries as well as multiple spin-offs, books, and a film adaptation currently in development. Despite the premise of the series being relatively simple, it has since been reimagined and recreated many times, with most games employing the common element of one person using a combination of security cameras, lights, doors, and vents in order to survive multiple nights without being caught by animatronic animals.

Longtime fans of the series can attest that the game has come a long way since its original conception. In fact, creator Scott Cawthon never intended for the animatronic characters to be scary at all. They first appeared in his earlier game called Chipper and Sons Lumber Co., which was intended to be a basic construction management game. However, critics reviewed the game negatively, with many commenting that the animals had an unsettling and scary appearance. Determined to turn this into a positive, Cawthon tweaked and reused these animals in Five Nights at Freddys, which received acclaim for its unique take on the horror genre.

The trailer for the latest game, found on YouTube, features a camera slowly panning through a vividly lit entertainment center. However, as the video continues, it transitions into a much darker version of the same setting, complete with a sinister voiceover. What is most noticeable, however, is the incredible amount of detail in the scenery thanks to the inclusion of Nvidia’s latest technology. According to Andrew Dayton, Co-Founder and CEO of Steel Wool Studios, the PC version of Security Breach is “incorporating many of the cutting edge RTX technologies such as ray tracing, global illumination, and DLSS.”

These inclusions are a huge deal for a series that comes from such humble beginnings. The graphical benefits of ray tracing and global illumination are evident as early as the first shot of the trailer; the vivid colors cast by the luminescent lighting are mirrored beautifully on the glossy floor textures. This is an especially useful feature in horror games, as many of them take place in particularly dark environments where every bit of light helps. Features such as ambient occlusion also mean better defined shadows, which in many games can be the difference between life and death.

The effects of DLSS, on the other hand, will likely not be able to be experienced until players boot the game up on their own computers. DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) is essentially Nvidia’s way of boosting frame rates and resolutions by feeding aliased frames into an AI supercomputer, applying anti-aliasing to those frames, and then feeding those frames back into the supercomputer but this time adding pixels instead of colors. In other words, where other games blur edges to make them look less jagged, DLSS adds pixels to make images appear more refined. The effects of this technique will vary per computer, but it will undoubtedly enhance this game’s PC experience significantly. Not much else is known about Security Breach’s story or setting yet, but today’s trailer clearly demonstrates that Nvidia has the technical aspects covered.
