Fear the Cowboy wins the Skip Away Stakes

Fear The Cowboy (Cowboy Cal – Whom Shall I Fear), the Grade 1-placed winner of the Grade 3 Skip Away Stakes and G3 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes, has been retired to stand at Glasses Creek Ranch in Oklahoma in a deal brokered by Chad Schumer of Schumer Bloodstock.

This tough performer retires as the winner of nine races and $1,774,369.

Successful on his second start at two in a maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park, Fear The Cowboy went on to win the Three Chopt Road Stakes at three and the Evangeline Mile Stakes at four before capturing the Skip Away and Harlan’s Holiday Stakes, beating Mr. Jordan by 2 1/4 lengths, during an excellent season in 2017 for trainer Efren Loza Jr.

From there, Fear The Cowboy continued to compete with the best, running third to Accelerate in the G1 Santa Anita Handicap (G1) and fourth to Gun Runner in the G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes.

Bred by the University Of Kentucky, Fear The Cowboy provides the Oklahoma market with access to the successful Giant’s Causeway branch of the Storm Cat sire line. Not only that, he also shares his female family with emerging sire Kantharos.

A stud fee for Fear The Cowboy will be announced at a later date.
