Why is Garcia joining Barcelona?
Garcia is returning to the club where he spent years in the academy before joining City in 2017.
The Spain international has long held a desire to return to his hometown club and the move was agreed in principle with the defender months ago.
Garcia, who is also part of Spain’s Euro 2020 squad, will be unveiled as a Barcelona player later on Tuesday afternoon.
During his time at City, Garcia managed 35 appearances and earned a Premier League winners medal for the 2020-21 season.
Why the big release clause?
It’s a quirk of contracts in Spain more than anything.
Every player in Spain has to have a release clause written into his contract. This was famously an issue for Barcelona when Neymar moved to PSG after they exercised his €222 million buyout clause.
Garcia is unlikely to move for €400 million, but a high figure protects Barcelona in the future.
What about Aguero?
On Monday, Aguero completed a move to Barcelona after his exit from Manchester City.
The Argentine striker will also officially join on July 1 on a two-year deal. His contract has a release clause of €100 million.
Who else could Barcelona sign?
It is understood that Liverpool midfielder Georgino Wijnaldum, whose contract also expires this summer, is likely to become Barcelona’s next signing on a free.
