Emmys 2020: "RuPaul’s Drag Race" Wins Outstanding Competition Program

Ever since RuPaul’s Drag Race won its first Emmy Award in 2016, it’s been a favorite to win in multiple competition categories. This year is no different.

The long-running drag competition reality show took home a total of six awards at the 2020 Emmys, including in the category for Outstanding Competition Program. It beat out Nailed It!, The Masked Singer, The Voice, and Top Chef for the honor.

RuPaul himself also won Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program at this week’s Creative Arts Emmys, making the record fifth straight year that he’s taken the category. He dedicated the award to the late Chi Chi DeVayne (neé Zavion Davenport), the season 8 and All Stars 3 contestant who died of pneumonia in August. DeVayne was 34.

“May you rest in power and perfection,” RuPaul said.

Fans also celebrated earlier this week when it was announced that Drag Race star Raven won her first-ever Emmy. The drag entertainer, also known as David Petruschin, has worked on the show as RuPaul’s personal makeup artist since season 9 and took the category for Outstanding Makeup for a Multi-Camera Series or Special (Non-Prosthetic).

“From the bottom of my heart and all of the hearts of the glam squad here at RuPaul’s Drag Race, I want to thank you for giving us the win,” Raven said in her Tuesday acceptance speech.

Other awards that the show scored this year include Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program and Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling, among others.

The program has taken home 19 Emmys in total throughout its 12 seasons on air.
