Emma Raducanu splits from new coach after US Open win

Emma Raducanu has revealed that she has split with her coach Andrew Richardson after the pair worked together during her historic US Open victory. The 18-year-old shocked the sporting world when she became the first qualifier in history to win a Grand Slam while working with her childhood coach, but has now said she is looking for someone with more experience at tour level after shooting up the rankings to world No 22.

Raducanu started working with Richardson ahead of the North American hard court season, which she started as the world No 179, and ended as a top 25 player following her historic US Open triumph.

At the time, she had recently split with Nigel Sears, Andy Murray’s father-in-law and former coach of the likes of Anett Kontaveit and Ana Ivanovic.

The Bromley teenager worked with Sears during the grass court season, when she stormed to the second week of Wimbledon as a wild card in her first-ever appearance at Major level, but split with him shortly after and teamed up with her childhood coach in a move that surprised many.

The risk seemed to pay off though, as Raducanu came to New York at a then-career high of No 150 in the world after reaching her first final at WTA 125k level, and achieved the impossible when she came through three qualifying matches and seven main-draw matches without dropping a set to win the US Open.
