Emma Raducanu makes surprising admission after winning £1.8m prize money at US Open

Before winning the US Open and collecting almost £2m, the 18-year-old had earned just £250,000 in prize money during her young career.

A surprise winning run at Wimbledon catapulted her name into the spotlight this summer, but before the tournament she was ranked as the British No 10 and outside the world’s top 300.

She eventually had to retire in the round of 16 due to breathing difficulties, but her run at SW19, combined with her exploits at the US Open, have left her as British No 1 and world No 23.

With success comes rewards, both financial and otherwise, and she recently spoke about the thrill of meeting seven-time Formula One world champion, Lewis Hamilton, at the Met Gala this week.
