The Canadian gave Raducanu a run for her money early on, but the Brit held on before seeing out the match in straight sets to complete one of the most remarkable sporting achievements in British history.
But Raducanu wasn’t the only British champion at the US Open with Joe Salisbury, Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett all winning titles.
Salisbury won both the men’s doubles and mixed doubles title while Hewett and Reid clinched success in the wheelchair.
