Eamon's Cormer: In Saudi Arabia, golfers claim to ‘grow the game’ while padding their bank accounts


It’s that dreaded week of the season again, when we have to endure the most cringe-worthy tournament in golf.

Not because of the fans at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, mind you, but because of the players in Saudi Arabia.

Nothing the bellowing drunks will shout this week at TPC Scottsdale will be as putrid as what some players will say publicly at the Saudi International 8,000 miles away.

Everyone sets parameters of their own conscience and those parameters are often dictated by money. It’s nothing new, even in golf.

All we should ask in return is that the players spare us the brazen drivel about growing the game and helping to open up Saudi Arabia.
