Dwyane Wade “Appreciated” Mike Tyson Defending His Family Against Transphobic Zaya Comments

Dwyane Wade says he “appreciated” Mike Tyson defending his family against Boosie Badazz’s transphobic comments.

Back in February, when Dwyane revealed that his daughter Zaya is gender non-conforming, the Louisiana rapper misgendered Zaya multiple times and made degrading comments about gender confirmation surgery in an Instagram live rant. So during an episode of his podcast published in October, Mike confronted Boosie for his vitriol, and clips of the conversation went viral.

Since then, it’s been revealed that Mike’s 24-year-old nonbinary child Ramsey Tyson inspired their father to take the rapper to task.

In a new interview with Central Ave TV, Dwyane offered his opinion on this exchange and expressed gratitude for the retired boxer. “Mike is someone who has never tried to be perfect,” he said. “He’s someone who learned from this journey of life. He’s so smart and so educated and knowledgeable about life, and for him to be able to drop that nugget on the world, it was great to hear him say that.”

Dwyane added that he never addressed transphobic critics of his family and Zaya because he understands that “everyone has their own journey towards accepting things.”

“They don’t know us, they don’t know our heart, they definitely don’t know Zaya,” he concluded. “All I do is what my mama say — just pray for them.”

Ramsey Tyson recently told them. that they happened to be in the studio on the day that their dad was taping the podcast with Boosie and thought it was “a good opportunity to educate someone about trans issues.” Ramsey ended up having a conversation with Boosie after the episode ended, but they didn’t end the dialogue in agreement.

“Part of the reason why I wanted to talk to Boosie about it is because I’m a nonbinary person who’s socially transitioned amongst my friends and started a medical transition,” they explained. “I felt like I couldn’t not say something.”

They also expressed that they thought the conversation got “out of hand,” especially when Mike started asking Boosie if he was a “homosexual” and if that was the reason he had bad things to say about “people who might be a homosexual.”

Mike was praised for the interaction, even though Boosie never explicitly apologized for his comments, though he did seem to express regret for saying his transphobic opinions out loud.
