Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson walks back tweet praising Boris Johnson

Actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson issued a mea culpa this week after he initially praised a line from a speech by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and joked that the two were cousins.

The Rock was promoting his new movie “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw” on “Good Morning Britain” when he joked that he was related to the new Conservative prime minister.

“He’s family, by the way. You don’t know that, but now all of Britain knows,” the actor said. “He’s my cousin. Again, it’s like looking in the mirror, every time I see Boris.”

The Rock later tweeted the same joke, writing: “Breaking: PM Boris Johnson is in fact my cousin (though we clearly look more like twins).”

“Jokes aside, PM did say something in his speech I liked – ‘the people are our bosses’ 100% agree,” he added. “The people/audience/consumer will always matter most. #ourboss.”

The Rock deleted the tweet a short time later after being “inundated with criticism,” The Independent reported.

“Well according to the people, maybe we’re not related after all,” he later tweeted. “Big mahalo to my people who I can always rely on to give me the real talk and swift perspective and education on the individual I did not know. Tequila on me, Britain.”
