Ducks eschew big moves — at least for now — but might have found a third-round draft bargain

What did the Ducks get done as the final rounds of the NHL Draft wrapped up Saturday? Between their selection of Mason McTavish with the No. 3 overall pick Friday night and a Saturday trade to add another third-round choice, they capped their work at Honda Center with an eight-player haul that matched last year’s output. The back-to-back classes are the largest since 2012.

What didn’t the Ducks get accomplished on draft weekend?

The current roster looks the same. Nothing gained, nothing subtracted, which won’t appease those who want something done to a team that has become one of the worst in the league. Build it up. Tear it down. Anything.

Theoretically, the Ducks can execute a trade at any time over the summer. But the draft has typically been a time when deals are made. Even with the draft being done virtually for the second straight year, it didn’t stop teams from moving notable players. Seth Jones, Jakub Voracek, Rasmus Ristolainen, Sam Reinhart, Cam Atkinson and Oliver Ekman-Larsson were among the biggest names who changed addresses.

Buffalo and Columbus moved some of their core players. Anaheim didn’t.
