Dream And Do Battles To Become Trainer Frederic Rossi’s First G1 Winner In French 1,000 Guineas

Trainer Frederic Rossi earned his first Group 1 win with Dream and Do in Monday’s French 1,000 Guineas

Two fillies passed the post in the same stride at the end of the Deauville straight mile, fighting for the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (French 1,000 Guineas, Gr1) on Monday. Finally, Dream and Do (Siyouni) won by a nose, just holding Speak of the Devil (Wootton Bassett), who pressed the winner after being held up towards the rear of the 12-runners field. Two lengths down finished third-placed Mageva (Wootton Bassett), also trained by Fabrice Chappet and sire by Haras d”Etreham’s sire, who just edged the beaten favourite Tropbeau (Showcasing).

Bred by her owners, the Carlis’ Haras du Logis Saint-Germain, who bought her back €80,000 at the yearling sales, Dream and Do was only beaten by the good Savarin for her debut, and no longer suffered defeat last season, winning at Marseille, then at Maisons-Laffitte, and there again in the Prix Miesque (Gr3), her last race in 2019.

In the Prix de la Grotte (Gr3), for her comeback, she fought hard to deny Tropbeau after following her but finally had to give way. Not this time then.

Dream and Do’s dam is a sister to the dam of the triple Group 1 winner over the mile and sire Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit).

She is entered in the Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary (Gr1) and the Prix de Diane Longines (Gr1). but her Marseilles trainer Frédéric Rossi, who won his first Group 1 on Monday, said that the mile was her actual limits, and that Dream and Do would rather be aimed at shorter distances, around 7 furlongs.

Quotes
Frédéric Rossi, trainer of Dream And Do (1st)

“Deauville racecourse brings me a lot of luck! I love coming here. This is very emotional as it is my first Group 1. Dream and Do is a champion. Every time she runs, the race goes like a dream. The mile is her maximum distance, and Maxime Guyon rode her to perfection. I will talk to her owner, but I don’t think that she will run in the Prix de Diane Longines. We don’t want to risk her.”

Maxime Guyon, jockey of Dream And Do (1st)

“I am so happy! Last time out in the Prix de la Grotte, it was me who lost us the race as I came too soon on her. A mile is her maximum distance. She has a huge turn of foot. She is close-couples, but her acceleration is huge.”

Cristian Demuro, jockey of Speak Of The Devil (2nd)

“I thought I was coming to win. She took time to find her stride, and really found top gear just strides from the post. I think I pushed the winner on!”

Fabrice Chappet, trainer of Speak Of The Devil (2nd) and Mageva (3rd)

“It’s not easy to lose by a nose. The fillies were in top form. This race was their main target. After running well on their respective seasonal bows, they have shown that they are top class fillies today. Mageva had a bad draw and had to wait before finishing very well. As did Speak of The Devil, who can sometimes be keen. After a waiting race, she found herself a bit too far back from the leaders. She kept running on only to beaten by the smallest of margins. We will take our time to think about their future programs.”
