Draft Buzz: What I’m hearing after spending time with NBA execs in Vegas


Every year in December, the epicenter of the NBA moves to Las Vegas for a weekend. The G League Showcase is often one of the most populated events in the league from a scouting perspective, with every team sending out many representatives to evaluate potential call-up options at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Additionally, there are usually high school events such as the Tarkanian Classic that populate the weekend, too, allowing media members access to multiple settings. The NBA has also added an Academy event in the mornings, allowing teams a chance to get a first look at some interesting international prospects before they head to college.

This year, there was also an added wrinkle. The CBS Sports Classic was in Las Vegas on Saturday, allowing evaluators the chance to see Kentucky, Ohio State, North Carolina and UCLA without having to make extra travel. Some luster was taken off of the event with Cole Anthony’s injury, but scouts still got a great chance to see…
