Dominic Thiem predicts demise of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will not continue their Grand Slam dominance in 2020, according to Dominic Thiem.

The top three players in the world have won 55 major tournaments between them.

But the new generation have been knocking on the door over the past years and Thiem reckons they will get their breakthrough soon..

“If you ask me now, I think there will be a change, yes,” Thiem told the told Times of India.

“The big three still took the Grand Slams this year, but I think next year will be the year where there’s a big change.

“I hope that one or two Grand Slams will be won by the younger players.”

Thiem has reached the final of the French Open for the past two years, losing to Nadal on each occasion.

But he was able to turn rivalry into friendship when he teamed up with the Spaniard at the Laver Cup.

Team Europe won the trophy for a third straight year but the biggest talking point was Nadal and Federer’s coaching tips.

And Thiem has lifted the lid on what it was like to be receiving advise from two of the greatest players of all time.

He explained: “The Laver Cup is a unique event and the chemistry in the whole team was unbelievable.

“Federer and Nadal would probably make the best coaches, because they have such a vast knowledge of tennis. It’s insane.

“They also coached when I was playing, and they always came to me during the breaks to give advice.”

Thiem is in Paris Masters action this week and will then finish his season at the ATP Finals in London.

“It’s always a big honour and it’s a big personal goal at the beginning of every season to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals,” he said.

“In the last three years, I’ve always managed to win one match, which was great, but I want more this year and would love to qualify for the semi-finals.”
