Dolphins at Jaguars spread, odds, picks and trends: Expert predictions for NFL Week 6 game in London

Another NFL game in London, another game between two teams under .500. Can’t we all agree that London deserves at least one game with good teams in it?

It’s only been five games, yet Miami appears dangerously close to the point of no return. The Dolphins dropped to 1-4 with a 45-17 loss to the Bucs. Miami’s offense continues to sputter, and fatigue finally sets in for a defense that’s had to work even harder than it did a year ago. That group was on the field for 37 minutes last week and gave up 558 yards of offense. And still, the Dolphins opened as three-point favorites against Jacksonville. They’d only been favored once in their first five games, though the return of Tua Tagovailoa is promising.

The Jaguars may not win a game on this continent in 2021. However, they’ll undoubtedly have a chance to snap their 20-game losing streak in London this week. Jacksonville is 1-4 against the spread but might be a less broken team than the Dolphins right now. The Jags piled on 454 yards in a 37-19 loss to Tennessee.  Expect them to execute better against a Dolphins’ defense that allows 133.6 rushing yards per game and gives up conversions on 57.1 percent of third downs, specifically James Robinson, who is coming off a 149-yard performance against the Titans.

Storylines for Dolphins-Jaguars

Miami Dolphins news

The Dolphins have the 30th-ranked defense, allowing 422.2 yards per game and rank 31st in opponents’ time of possession (34:29). However, Miami is set to match up against a Jaguars team that is allowing opponents to possess the ball nearly as much (33:55). The Dolphins could take advantage of that if top running back Myles Gaskin is able to continue his play. Gaskin is coming off a season-high 99 yards from scrimmage, which included a career-high 10 catches to go along with his two touchdowns. He’s had at least 70 yards from scrimmage in two of his past three games. Miami should also look to continue getting the ball in the hands of leading receiver Jaylen Waddle, who leads all rookies with 27 catches.

Jacksonville Jaguars news

Trevor Lawrence is coming off one of the better games of his young career. Lawrence completed a season-high 69.7 percent of his passes for 273 yards and a touchdown. One of the keys to Lawrence’s improved play in recent weeks has been the usage of Robinson. The running back had a career-high 149 yards in Week 5 and has rushed for at least 75 yards in his past three games.
