Dodgers clinch playoff spot with win against Diamondbacks, Padres loss

The Los Angeles Dodgers became the second MLB team to clinch a playoff spot following their 8-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, as well as the San Diego Padres‘ 6-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

The Dodgers’ postseason clinching comes one day after San Francisco (95-50) punched its ticket to the postseason. The Dodgers improved to 93-53 for the season, the second-best record in baseball.

The club has a 17-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Wild-Card standings. The Giants currently lead the NL West by 2.5 games over the Dodgers.

The Dodgers have won the division for eight straight seasons and captured the 2020 World Series title following the shortened season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
