Do the Angels have enough pitching depth? And who’s available to help?


When sorting through the wreckage of what has drawn the Angels to mediocrity for half a decade, it doesn’t take long to discover the key culprit. The Angels quite simply have not pitched well enough. They have entrusted far too many innings in arms who are either not ready or not capable of performing at the major-league level. The assortment of names to have a crack at impactful innings is dizzying.

Angels starters have not only performed worse than any staff in the last five years, according to FanGraphs’ Wins Above Replacement, but they also have been worse than any team at any position relative to league average. It’s a damning indictment about the organization’s inability to put together quality depth and acquire the top-end starting pitching to overcome a lack of it.
