Disney World Debuts the New Cinderella's Castle With Blush-Pink Paint and Gold Trim

Cinderella is moving on up in the world — Walt Disney World, that is. After it was announced in February that her iconic castle, which serves as the focal point of WDW’s Magic Kingdom, was set to receive a beautiful update, the new look debuted this week during a preview ahead of the park’s phased reopening on July 11. In addition to a beautiful blush-pink paint job and new gold trim, the blue rooftops and turrets also appear to be a much bolder color.

The castle’s makeover is in honor of the 70th anniversary of Cinderella. According to Jason Kirk, vice president of Magic Kingdom Park, the update feels only fitting that after so many years as a princess and inspiring guests and cast members, her castle would get a makeover fit for royalty. “Cinderella first transformed into a princess 70 years ago this week when the animated classic was released,” he wrote in a blog post in February, “and ever since, her courage and kindness have been inspiring guests and cast members alike. We are excited to share that her story has inspired a bold, shimmering, and royal makeover of her namesake castle at the heart of Walt Disney World Resort. When you visit, be sure to share your excitement with our cast members — they can’t wait to see the shimmering towers shining down on the kingdom each and every morning.”

Cinderella’s castle has always been the centerpiece of Walt Disney World, but this isn’t the first renovation it’s gone through. Another notable change for the castle in recent history was when the Disney Dream Suite was added as part of the park’s Year of a Million Dreams (which lasted longer than a year, because there was too much magic to spread around). Though the suite was seemingly always there inside the castle, it wasn’t quite livable until the 2000s when Disney gussied it up for guests.
