Dion Waiters suspended 10 games by Heat for edible marijuana incident on team plane


An already tough start to the season just got even more difficult for Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters.

On Sunday, the Heat announced they were suspending Waiters for 10 games for “conduct detrimental to the team” following an incident in which he consumed an edible marijuana product that led to a medical emergency on the team’s flight from Phoenix to Los Angeles on Thursday night.

“We are very disappointed in Dion’s actions this season that include the very scary situation on Thursday night, and grateful that the outcome wasn’t worse,” the team said in a statement. “There have been a number of instances this season in which Dion has engaged in conduct detrimental to the team.”

Waiters, who is eligible to return after the Heat’s game against Golden State on Nov. 29, was a late scratch from Friday’s game against the Lakers after ingesting “gummies” during the 30-minute flight. According…
