Did the Marvel & NBA mash-up do enough to earn the respect of casual hoops fans?


When “The Marvel Game” was announced, the general reaction around NBA fandom, at least as much as Twitter is representative was “Who is this for?” We’ve been calling for more basketball in basketball broadcasts for years, and this is going the other way. But the alternative feed of the game is not for us, the basketball nerds.

Last year after the announcement of the NBA’s announcement that Microsoft would become the league’s “Official Artificial Intelligence Partner,” commissioner Adam Silver spoke to technologist Ben Thompson about the importance of the NBA delivering most “customizable” and “direct-to-consumer” experiences. Part of that effort includes the alternative commentary feeds which have been part of the League Pass offering all season.
