Derrius Guice is arguably the biggest name making the rounds for the Washington Redskins right now.
While the team made a big move in drafting Dwayne Haskins and an equally massive move by signing Landon Collins, it’s the much-anticipated return of Derrius Guice that has the national analysts talking.
At Pro Football Focus, Guice was the pick as the Redskins’ x-factor entering 2019:
“Derrius Guice was sidelined last season after being injured in the preseason but should return to full form in 2019 as a versatile, talented back. He forced at least 44 missed tackles and gained at least 750 yards after contact in his last two seasons at LSU. He is a load to bring down.”
This isn’t the first time Guice has received this honor.
And it is hard to disagree. Adrian Peterson ran for 1,000-plus yards last year behind a strong offensive line despite no help from the passing game. Guice is younger, brimming with upside and boasts every-down capabilities and should have the benefit of also playing alongside an improved passing attack.
If Guice does end up struggling for some reason, there isn’t a guarantee Peterson can replicate his production from last year, nor do the Redskinds have many names who could step in as workhorses.
Indeed, that has Guice looking like an x-factor.
