Debbie Lesko fires back at Bette Midler: 'Wind beneath your wings has turned into hot air'

Republican Rep. Debbie Lesko fired back at Bette Midler on Twitter after the singer accused her of “grandstanding bigtime” during Wednesday’s impeachment hearing.

During the prime-time hearing, Ms. Lesko, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, defended President Trump against allegations of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress and accused the Democrats of “tearing our country apart with their sham impeachment.”

Ms. Midler, an outspoken liberal who live-tweeted the hearing, responded by accusing Ms. Lesko of defending a “criminal.”

“Now the gal, Debbie Lesko, R, Arizona, is grandstanding bigtime!!” Ms. Midler tweeted to her 1.8 million followers. “Blame the Dems, don’t blame the criminal in the (White House). His own actions, his own words, have led him to this day. He’s a fake, installed by Russia. Maybe Richard Nixon was ‘not a crook’. But this guy really is.”

Hours later, Ms. Lesko fired back by using Ms. Midler’s own song lyrics against her.

“Hey gal, looks like the ‘wind beneath your wings’ has turned into hot air,” she wrote, The Hill reported. “Unlike Nixon, no crimes committed by Trump. Democrats just acting like ‘Ruthless People.’”

Ms. Midler did not respond to the congresswoman’s tweet.

Ms. Lesko later used the singer’s insult as a fundraising pitch, tweeting, “The radical Left is accusing me of ‘grandstanding’ because I stood up for our democracy! Will you to stand with me and fight against the corrupt House Democrats?”
