Deandre Ayton says he is a 'born and raised' power forward

Deandre Ayton is here for the recent talk of him playing more power forward next season.

Speaking at his fundraiser event on Monday, the Phoenix Suns star made an interesting assertion about his positional fit.

“That’s my born and raised position is power forward,” said Ayton, per Kellan Olson of 98.7 Arizona Sports.

The versatile seven-footer Ayton played exclusively at center for the Suns during his rookie season, but operated at the power forward spot during his one season in college at the University of Arizona.

The Suns, who previously expressed an openness to playing Ayton at the 4, shored up their frontcourt this offseason by signing Aron Baynes, Cheick Diallo, and Frank Kaminsky, among others. While the former No. 1 overall pick Ayton probably won’t be a full-time power forward, the added flexibility will give Phoenix another intriguing lineup option next season.
