Dawn Foods expands footprint in Canada

JACKSON, MICH. — Dawn Food Products, Inc. has acquired an Ardent Mills ingredient mix facility in Burlington, Ont., and secured the rights to take over the latter’s sweets goods business in Canada. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition allows both companies to continue focusing on their core capabilities. Dawn Foods will focus on its bakery ingredient offerings, while Ardent Mills will continue to supply flour to the facility under Dawn’s ownership.

According to the 2018 Directory & Buyers Guide published by Sosland Publishing Company, the Burlington facility makes a variety of mixes, including bread, brownie, cake, cookie, Danish, donut, muffins, pie crust and pizza dough. The facility’s products are distributed to the industrial, institutional and wholesale markets.

“The acquisition of Ardent Mills’ Burlington plant will provide increased access to our industry-leading products for our Canadian customers,” said Carrie Jones-Barber, chief executive officer at Dawn Foods. “As we continue to focus our business on bakery ingredients, expanding our capabilities in Canada allows us to deliver our targeted insights, innovations, products and bakery expertise to even more bakeries across the country, empowering them to achieve their aspirations.”

Daniel P. Dye, c.e.o. of Ardent Mills, added, “This mutually beneficial acquisition allows us to step away from sweet ingredient mixes and concentrate on flour and savory mixes. Our team members and customers in Canada will be well taken care of by Dawn and we are committed to a smooth transition.”

Ardent Mills will maintain control of its bakery mix facilities in Montreal and Saskatoon, Sask.

The deal between Dawn Foods and Ardent Mills closed on June 21.
