Danny Ainge resigns, Brad Stevens moves to front office: Celtics coaching candidates, job evaluations, what’s next


On Wednesday morning, the day after the Celtics were eliminated by the Brooklyn Nets following a mostly uncompetitive five-game first-round playoff series, The Athletic NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news that Brad Stevens would be moving from his head coaching role into a front office position as the Celtics new head of basketball operations, replacing Danny Ainge who resigned from the position.

We asked a group of our NBA experts, basketball Hall of Famer David Aldridge, former Memphis Grizzlies vice president of basketball operations John Hollinger and national senior writer Joe Vardon, to offer their initial reactions to the news and to give us some insight into what’s next.
