Daniil Medvedev joins Novak Djokovic backing WTA over China stance amid Peng Shuai fears

Daniil Medvedev has joined Novak Djokovic in backing the WTA’s decision to suspend all tournaments taking place in China amid fears for Peng Shuai.

Tennis star Shuai went missing last month after accusing a senior Chinese politician of sexual abuse via a post on social media site Weibo.

Her post on the popular Chinese website was then deleted, along with all of her recent content. Shuai was then unreachable leading many within the tennis community fearing for her safety.

Days later Chinese state media released a number of videos appearing to show the former Wimbledon doubles champion safe and well at a Beijing restaurant, as well as a local tournament however many – including WTA Steve Simon – were not convinced.

This led to the association suspending all events in China on Wednesday, however a day later the ATP – the main Tour in the men’s game – refused to follow suit.

He added: “There are problems in a lot of countries, and yet we play tennis tournaments in most of them.
