Dani Alves announces departure from PSG on Instagram

Dani Alves announces departure from PSG on Instagram just hours after scoring in Brazil’s Copa America thrashing of Peru

Dani Alves has announced he is leaving Paris Saint-Germain though the Brazilian full-back didn’t reveal what his next move will be.

The announcement, made on his Instagram account, came just hours after the 36-year-old captained Brazil to a 5-0 thumping of Peru at the Copa America, a match in which he also found the net.

Alves joined PSG in the summer of 2017 following spells with Sevilla, Barcelona and Juventus in European football.

His two seasons in Paris saw him win the French league title twice as well as the French Cup and the French League Cup.

However, PSG did not come close to emulating the three Champions League triumphs Alves achieved earlier in his career with Barcelona.

Posting a photograph of himself with the silverware won with PSG, Alves wrote: ‘Another cycle in my life ends today, a victorious cycle, one of learning and experiences.

‘I would like to thank the PSG family for the opportunity we had together to build a page in the club’s history.

‘I would like to thank all the staff for their affection, respect and complicity from day one… you make this club a little more special.

‘It was two years of resilience and continuous reinventing to fulfil my mission but in life everything has a beginning, a middle and an end and now the time has come to make that final point.

‘I apologise if at any point I was not up to it on the pitch and I apologise if at some points I made mistakes, I just tried to give my best.

‘Thanks to all my companions for the moments we lived, the laughter together and the boredom that your lazy spirits put me through.

‘If you ever remember me, be like the ‘Good Crazy’ of each day, with a beautiful smile on your face, with a pure energy of soul, as a professional worker and committed to the goals, as someone who just wanted to make each day better.’

Alves replaced PSG team-mate Neymar as Brazil captain ahead of the Copa America.

He scored their fourth goal in the 5-0 drubbing of Peru in Sao Paulo as Brazil sealed top spot in their group with two wins and a draw from three matches played.
