Dan Bongino, 'Chernobyl' creator spar over socialism after Stephen King compares disaster to Trump

Conservative commentator Dan Bongino schooled producer Craig Mazin on the “failure of socialism” Thursday after the creator and writer of HBO’s “Chernobyl” praised a tweet by horror icon Stephen King that compared the Soviet-era disaster to Donald Trump’s presidency.

The feud started early Thursday after Mr. King wrote that it’s “impossible” for him to watch “Chernobyl” without thinking of the current president.

Mr. Mazin responded that he’s “pleased” the novelist has been watching the miniseries “smartly.”

That’s when Mr. Bongino, a Fox News contributor, chimed in to claim that the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 was a “failure of socialism” and contradictory to Mr. Trump’s policies.

Mr. Mazin fired back, claiming that the disaster was a really a “failure of humans.”

Mr. Bongino then apologized to his followers for recommending the show and said he would no longer watch it moving forward.

“Every budding tyrant in history has claimed collectivism’s 100% success record of failure is due to ‘human failures’ not the system,” Mr. Bongino wrote. “This is the Trump-hating producer of @HBO’s ‘Chernobyl‘ falling right in line.

“Only a clueless Hollywood elitist could produce a historically accurate series such as ‘Chernobyl‘ and come away with the message that socialism wasn’t the issue,” he added.
