Two yearlings took top spot at the annual Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society: Ontario Division’s Canadian Premier Yearling Sale, selling for $200,000-plus (Canadian) at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion in Toronto.
A total of 157 yearlings sold for $3,381,400 a 20 percent increase from 2018 gross sales. The average increased by 16.2 percent from $18,532 in 2018 to $21,538, and the median increased by 20.9 percent to $13,000.
Hip 115, a bay filly by Silver Max, sold for $240,000 to top the sale. The filly, out of the placed Holy Bull mare Holy Cargo, was purchased by Frank Stronach and consigned by Adena Springs North, agent. Preakness Stakes winner Red Bullet is in the filly’s extended family.
Hip 122, a dark bay or brown colt by Society’s Chairman brought $200,000. The colt out of the winning Malibu Moon mare Jademarie was purchased by New Generations Racing Stable and consigned by Shannondoe Farm, agent. The colt is from the extended family of 2016 Canadian Horse of the Year Caren.
Hip 53, a dark bay or brown colt from the first crop of Tourist dropped the hammer for $120,000. The colt is out of the placed Perfect Soul mare Classic Soul, making him a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Speedy Soul. His third dam is the Canadian Hall of Famer No Class, putting him on the same page as champions Sky Classic, Regal Classic, Grey Classic, and Classy ‘N Smart.
Cudney Stables bought the colt from the consignment of Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.
