“Cross it, now!” – assessing Wayne Rooney’s first match as interim Derby boss

It was about joined-up thinking, everybody being on the same page, and adopting a collaborative approach. Not even a week later that messaging changed and the collaboration had become a one-man operation.

Rooney is calling the shots now, a decision that was taken on Thursday evening after a meeting with the rest of the coaching staff and new technical director Steve McClaren, who Rooney says he will be leaning on for advice.
