Cracked case: How an unrealized egg allergy was sapping Blake Martinez’s energy


Blake Martinez had the same pregame routine during his four seasons in Green Bay. He’d start his morning with a breakfast burrito. Invariably, he’d “always feel like crap” a few hours later so he’d have an energy drink before kickoff. That would give him a jolt, but then, “literally every single one of those games, my body at halftime felt like it was just like, ‘Please stop.’”

Martinez didn’t know why he felt so sluggish. He figured it was just pregame nerves. And despite feeling like his body was shutting down at halftime, he played nearly every defensive snap and tallied more tackles than any player in the NFL over the past three seasons.
