Covering high tops, not the mop tops: Michael Jordan’s Bulls were cooler than any rock band


CHICAGO — The Bulls were coming to the suburbs of Washington D.C. to play the Bullets in 1990, maybe ’91, it’s hard to remember. And word got to the team’s PR director Tim Hallam that the Crown Princess of Saudi Arabia, who had a suite in the Bullets’ arena, wanted an audience with Michael Jordan before or after the game. Hallam relayed the request to Jordan.

Jordan said, thanks, but no thanks and Hallam relayed the message.

But, came the startled response, this was the Crown Princess of Saudi Arabia!

World-weary beyond his years, Hallam replied, there’s a Crown Princess in every city we go to.
