Could Victor Oladipo join Miami Heat in free agency?

Victor Oladipo reportedly turned down a two-year, $45.2M maximum contract extension from the Houston Rockets, making him a possible trade piece before the upcoming trade deadline on March 25. But if Houston decides not to trade Oladipo, he will become a free agent after the season, and according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Miami Heat remain a team that the 28-year-old guard would love to join for the long-term.

“I don’t think it’s any secret in the league Victor has a desire to play in Miami,” Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective. “He’d like to go there in free agency. They’re going to have cap space, so that may happen.”

Oladipo’s interest in joining the Heat has been well-documented, as he reportedly told multiple Miami players that he would love to play with them last season when he was on the Pacers. The big question may be if the Heat shares Oladipo’s interest in him coming to Miami. While the Rockets guard remains a scoring threat, his efficiency as a playmaker is questionable, as he has been shooting less than 40% from the field since coming to Houston.

Of course, the Rockets could still decide to trade Oladipo before the deadline, especially now that he has made it clear he does not plan on staying in Houston.
